Collaborative Colloquium | New Southeast Asian Nationalism

The next Collaborative Colloquium will take place on Monday, 21 July from 4 to 6 PM at the Institute of Ethnology.

What do some of the speeches of the Indonesian presidential candidate Prabowo, the Thai military junta’s reference to ‘Thai-ness’ and the anti-Chinese protests in Vietnam have in common?

All of these issues are current processes in Southeast Asia that could be framed under the term “new nationalism”.  As we already discussed the current developments in Thailand and Indonesia within our last ColCol sessions, we want to discuss possible similarities and interlinkages between these two phenomena and with the recently happening anti-Chinese riots in Vietnam. We could also further ask in how far these issues could possibly influence peace and cooperation in the region?

The event will take place in Seminarraum, Institute for Ethnology, Werthmannstr. 10 (first floor).
