Jürgen Rüland talked at the Institutskolloquium

On Wednesday, 23 November 2016, Jürgen Rüland (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg) spoke in Tübingen at the Institutskolloquium about "The Indonesian Way: ASEAN, Europeanization, and Foreign Policy Debates in a New Democracy"

Jürgen Rüland is Professor of International Politics and former Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University Freiburg. He also served as director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institut in Freiburg.

During his career he has conducted research at numerous universities in Southeast Asia and focused on topics of cooperation and institutions in International Relations, globalisation and regionalisation, international politics in the Asia-Pacific region, democratisation as well as political, socio-economic and cultural dynamics in Southeast Asia.

His numerous publications include Parliaments and Political Change in Asia: A Comparative Study of India, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand (Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 2005), Give Jesus a Hand! Charismatic Christians: Populist Religion in the Philippines (Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2008) and most recently ASEAN as an Actor in International Fora: Reality, Potential and Constraints (Cambridge University Press, 2015).
