Julia Mariko Jacoby, born in 1986, studied History, Latin and Geology at the University of Freiburg and graduated with an M.A. in 2013. In 2007 and 2008, she spent two semesters at the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, where she mostly studied Japanese History. Since 2014, she teaches East Asian History at the University of Freiburg and works on her PhD thesis.
Main research interests include the history of natural disasters, Japanese media history, history of knowledge, and World War II in East Asia.
