18 June 2013: Prof. Rüland participated in the public hearing on EU relations with ASEAN and Southeast Asia
On 18 June 2013, Prof. Rüland participated in the hearing organized by the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament on “Foreign Policy Considerations in EU Relations with ASEAN and Southeast Asia”, in Brussels. Prof. Rüland contributed a statement on “ASEAN Citizens’ Rights: Rule of Law, Judiciary and Law Enforcement.”

Tandem Research between the University of Freiburg and Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta continues in 2013

The international and interdisciplinary tandem-research-cooperation between the Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta and the University of Freiburg will be continued in summer 2013. Nine Indonesian students of cultural anthropology and political science will come to Freiburg in June 2013 and conduct field research with students from Freiburg University.

Colloquium Politicum Spotlight | Southeast Asia at the University of Freiburg

With SPOTLIGHT, the Colloquium politicum wants to specifically highlight programs and interdisciplinary research with an international focus and outreach. As regards Southeast Asia, the University of Freiburg pursues an interdisciplinary concept of research. In the frame of the Southeast Asian Studies Programme, national and international guest scholars regularly present their findings and discuss current issues.

In 2012, the Freiburg Southeast Asia Study Group organized an international conference on "Methodology in Southeast Asian Studies", which took place May 29-31, 2012 in Freiburg, Germany.

International Workshop at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), Thursday 29 November 2012, hosted by the Hamburg International Graduate School for the Study of Regional Powers (HIGS) in cooperation with the University of Hamburg. Speakers are amongst others Patrick T. Jackson, Benjamin Herborth, Arshin Adib-Moghaddam, Annika Mattissek and Georg Glasze.

The current worldwide resurgence of religion goes hand in hand with new religious practices, forms of articulation and mass mediatization as well as idiosyncratic references to the past. This interdisciplinary conference will focus on the popularization of religions in Europe, Asia and the transcultural, global space. We are especially interested in the interconnection between the making of religion, tradition and the popular.
