The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and the Insitute Francais des Relations Internationales (IFRI) held a conference on "What can the ASEAN Community contribute to South East Asia and the World?" on 18-19 January 2016 in Paris, France.

From May 5 to 15, the European Spring Academy will convene in Otzenhausen, Germany for an in-depth discussion of comparative regional integration in the EU and the ASEAN. Prof. Jürgen Rüland form the University of Freiburg will be present for a panel on EU-ASEAN relations.

On 12 December 2014, a DAAD-sponsored delegation of Indonesian university and think tank scholars will visit the University of Freiburg. The FRIAS Research Focus program "Dynamic Alignments and Dealignments in Global Southeast" Asia provides the program for the delegation.

On the ocassion of the 50th anniversary of the mass killings of communists in Indonesia in late 1965, the center for Southeast Asian Studies in cooperation with the "Kommunale Kino Freiburg" organizes a photo exhibition which can be visited for free at the KoKi beginning the 14th until the 24th of July. There will be an opening ceremony on the 14th starting at 6 pm, which will be followed by a screening of the movie "The Women and the Generals".

Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg University is convening a methodology school on empirical research methods between 29 October and 31 October 2015.

From November 2014 until March 2015, Markus Mietzner will hold a fellowship at Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg on the research topic of 'Localizing democracy in Indonesia'
