DAAD program extension 2014-2017: "From Tandem to Teamwork"
Under the new title "From Tandem to Teamwork. A Training Model for Fieldresearch across Cultural and Disciplinary Boundaries" the DAAD approved to support the collaboration between the departments of Anthropology and Political Science at ALU, Freiburg, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta and further Indonesian universities from 2014 to 2017.

Dr. Masudi of the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies (PSSAT) at the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, will be presenting his paper "Contestation between state-society in coastal-based economy in Local Indonesia." The presentation will take place in room 101 (Breisacher Tor), Thursday 7 December, 2 p.m.

EADI Prize for Excellence in Development Research for Anne-Kathrin Weber
Anne-Kathrin Weber, member of the International Relations Chair and the Southeast Asian studies group was awarded the EADI Prize for Excellence in Development Research. She received the award for her paper "Why Companies Go Green - A Constructivist View on Corporate Sustainability Activities in the Forest Sector." The paper was submitted to the European Association for Development Research and Training Institutes' (EADI) Nordic Conference held in Bergen at 21-23 August 2017. The paper, inter-alia, also draws from experiences in Indonesia.

Anna Fünfgeld, Maria-Gabriela Manea and Jürgen Rüland spoke at the General Conference of the European Consortium of Political Research in Hamburg, 22-25 August
Anna Fünfgeld presented papers on "Energy Infrastructure as Multi-Scalar Challenges of ASEAN Connectivity" and "Just Energy? Social Justice and the Indonesian Coal Sector". Maria-Gabriela Manea and Jürgen Rüland spoke on “Localizing Parliamentary Oversight: A Comparative Area Studies Approach to Military Reform in Indonesia and Nigeria”. Jürgen Rüland co-chaired (with Patrick Köllner, GIGA Hamburg) the section on “Comparative Area Studies” and presented a paper on “Context, Concepts and Comparison in Southeast Asian Studies” (co-authored with Mikko Huotari, MERICS, Berlin).
