The FRIAS focus program on Southeast Asia is organizing a conference on “Alignments and Dealignments in global Southeast Asia”, 24-26 June 2015.

In the upcoming Winter and Summer Terms, five internal as well as two external fellows will be hosted by the Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies for one year. The fellowships are embedded in the FRIAS Research Focus "Dynamic Alignments and De-Alignments in Global Southeast Asia". The internal senior fellows are Prof. Jürgen Rüland, Prof. Judith Schlehe, Prof. Günther Schulze and Prof. Sabine Dabringhaus, the external junior fellows are Agus Suwignyo and Katja Rangsivek. Additionally, Stefan Rother has been awarded an internal junior fellowship.

In January, Stefan Rother, Kirsten Hackenbroch and Tabea Bork-Hüffer are convening a conference on the subject of 'Translocal Spatial Practices, Urban Transfomations: Migration and Mobile Urbanism in South and South-East Asia'

The presentation of "Singapore - Another History of Chineseness?" will be given by Prof. Dr. Sabine Dabrginhaus, East Asian History, Freiburg University

The presentation of "Dying for the Nation: State Funerals in Thailand" will be given by Dr. Katja Rangsivek, Southeast Asian Studies, University of Copenhagen

The presentation of "The Javanese in Southeast Sulawesi, c. 1930-2014" will be given by Dr. Agus Suwignyo, History, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta

The presentation of "Presidential Government and Party System Fragmentation in Indonesia" will be given by Dr. Dirk Tomsa, Political Science, La Trobe University

From mid-June until mid-July 2017 ten teams of students from Anthropology and International Relations from universities in Freiburg, Yogyakarta and Makassar will collaborate in fieldwork training in Freiburg.
