In October 2012 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Departments of Anthropology and International Relations of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar, Albert-Ludwigs Universität and the Southeast Asian Studies Group, Freiburg.

Jürgen Rüland contributed a module on “ASEAN’s external relations” to the “ASEAN Law School 2022” conducted by the Center of International Law (CIL) of the National University of Singapore on 15 and 17 February 2022. The module focused on ASEAN’s performance as a collective actor in global international organizations such as the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
