Dr. Mirjam Lücking

Mirjam Lücking, born 1986, is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Freiburg. She studied Social and Cultural Anthropology and Islamic Studies at the University of Freiburg. In her B.A. studies she worked on Female Muslim Scholarship in Indonesia and Morocco, finishing her Bachelor of Arts with a thesis on the Moroccan Mourchidat (Female Muslim Preachers) and their role as potential designers of an Islamic Modernity. During the M.A. program in Social and Cultural Anthropology she conducted an interdisciplinary research on standard based public service delivery in Indonesia. The research was conducted in cooperation with GIZ Indonesia, Florian Platte (Economics) and Anna Fünfgeld (Political Science). The research results were discussed in a joint paper and in a M.A. thesis entitled: “Between ‘Good’ and ‘Real’ Governance – An Anthropological Perspective on Public Service Delivery in Indonesia.” In her PhD project, which is funded by the BMBF through Southeast Asian Studies at Freiburg since 1st November 2013, her research activities focus on ideas and images of the “Arab World” in Indonesia
