Jürgen Rüland contributed a module on “ASEAN’s external relations” to the “ASEAN Law School 2022” conducted by the Center of International Law (CIL) of the National University of Singapore on 15 and 17 February 2022. The module focused on ASEAN’s performance as a collective actor in global international organizations such as the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On 17 June 2022 Jürgen Rüland participated in a panel discussion on “The ‘Asian way’ for resolving challenges in a multipolar region,” broadcasted by China Radio International.

On the 13th of October 2019 he presented his paper “Subnational Favoritism in Development Grant Allocations-Empirical Evidence from a Decentralized Country.

Jürgen Rüland presented a paper at the International Conference “Cambodia and ASEAN Regionalism, in the Context of Indo-Pacific”, Phnom Penh on 8 August 2019.

On Monday, 27th of May, Arif Havas Oegroseno, Ambassdor of Indonesia to Germany, will be holding a talk on "Indonesia's Environmental Challenges: Policy Response - Climate and Energy Management".

The international and interdisciplinary tandem-research-cooperation between the Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta and the University of Freiburg will be continued in Spring 2019. Four Indonesian students of cultural anthropology will come to Freiburg in May 2019 and conduct field research with students from Freiburg University under the theme "Anthropology of Environmental Activism".

Gerrit J. Gonschorek (Ph.D. Student, Institute of Economic Research, Department of International Economic Policy) just returned from Jakarta, Indonesia, where he worked on a Short-Term-Consultancy (STC) assignment for the World Bank Group (GP Governance, Fiscal Decentralization Unit, World Bank Group, Jakarta Office).
