After finishing his master's degree in 2007 he started a PhD at the University of Freiburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Schulze. The topic of his dissertation is “Governance and Decentralization in Developing Countries.” His research interests focus on the accountability and governance mechanisms that influence public service delivery in developing countries, particularly in Indonesia. His current work attempts to provide a theoretical foundation for the impact of decentralization on the degree of electoral control that voters exert on policymakers.
