The Jakarta Post | Jürgen Rüland explains why ASEAN needs a regional Parliament

In a guest article Prof. Rüland explains that the existing Asian Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is merely "a façade of legitimacy" vested with very few rights and meeting only once a year. He argues that ASEAN's decision impact a large part of the Southeast Asian population and therefore the organization needs to "become more inclusive and accountable". In his opinion, one way to achieve this would be a reform of AIPA that would make the parliament more representative and powerful.

And to meet demand, sand sometimes also trickles through dubious channels. John hopes his findings could help to moderate the negative effects of the trade.
