60th Annual ISA Convention
Anna Fünfgeld, Maria-Gabriela and Jürgen Rüland participated in the 60th Annual Convention of the International Studies Association (ISA), held at Toronto, 27-30 March 2019.
Anna Fünfgeld spoke on “Connecting and Dis-Connecting ASEAN: Infrastructural Imaginaries in Southeast Asia” and “Struggles over Indonesian Energy Politics: Counter-Hegemony and the Role of Organic Intellectuals”
Maria-Gabriela Manea and Jürgen Rüland presented papers on “Policy Diffusion: Localizing Parliamentary Oversight of the Military in Indonesia and Nigeria” and “The EU Parliament as External Norm Entrepreneur: Democracy and Human Rights Promotion in the Foreign Relations with China and Southeast Asia”
Jürgen Rüland also contributed to the Round Table “How ASEAN Matters in the Study of International Relations (In Memory of Former ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan 1949-2017”
